EastCoast CAD/CAM releases it’s
2008 CAD software further establishing its position as the most
integrated HVAC and Piping software solution for AutoCAD
MEP 2008
Littleton, MA (August 6, 2007) - EastCoast
CAD/CAM is now shipping EC Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP
2008 and the updated version of it's flagship CAD design
tool, EC CAD 2008. EC CAD 2008 includes user
experience improvements and extended integration with AutoCAD
MEP®. Included in the releases is an expanded product feature
set, a redesigned catalog, the ability to convert and merge
existing catalogs and extended support for third party estimating
programs.
David Derocher, President of EastCoast CAD/CAM affirms that
the increased integration between Autodesk’s AutoCAD
MEP design platform and EC CAD 2008 is a result of the companies’ unique
joint development relationship. David states, ”EastCoast
CAD/CAM has an ongoing developer-to-developer relationship
with Autodesk’s AutoCAD MEP development team.” He
describes this mutual relationship as a significant benefit
to his customers by providing them with a level of integration
into Autodesk platforms that no other HVAC or piping software
business offers.” According to David, “The
ability to release a fully integrated software plug-in supporting
the new features, protocols and functionality of AutoCAD MEP
2008 while including many new EastCoast CAD/CAM features is
a testimony of how well our two teams work together and an
indication of what future Autodesk multi-platform integration
will look like for our customers.”
The new EC Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP 2008 plug-in includes
control mapping between AutoCAD MEP and EC CAD 2008. The
increased integration allows a designer to introduce the final
specification information further in the process, allowing
the design process to begin earlier. Once the design is complete
and the coordination is done, the design model is refined and
detailed within EC CAD where it’s readied for estimating,
fabrication or the creation of spool drawings. The 2008 release
contains increased detailing automation for valves, flanges,
gaskets and duct inlet end caps.
- General product improvements delivered in these two product
releases include increased user flexibility in managing and
simplifying their personal drawing real estate. EC CAD 2008
supports dual monitor stations giving users the option to
use multiple monitors. Further user experience enhancements
have been added through a number of individual UI design
techniques, such as automatic de-selection of tools.
EC CAD 2008 also provides the user with the ability to convert
older EC CAD catalogs to EC CAD 2008 catalogs. In addition,
EC CAD 2008 provides the user with the ability to merge catalog
information from multiple catalogs.
Piping designers will find increased support for piping and
spool drawings. Users can define flange and weld settings with
a single mouse click. In addition, when working with gaskets
and flanges, EC CAD automatically maps all of the attributes
of the selected flange to its associated gasket geometry. For
butt welds, the user can match the nominal size or size and
material of a butt weld pipe and automatically assign a weld
gap based on that nominal size or size and material combination.
These new piping enhancements vastly improve the overall user
experience along with greater accuracy and speed.
The 2008 release from EastCoast CAD/CAM also includes the
implementation of a new security and licensing solution. This
new approach to licensing (using HASP keys) eliminates the
time-consuming access code technology making the process much
easier. Updates and additional functionality are easy
and completed through the Internet. The USB key provides a
more flexible use of the software allowing users to install
the software on whatever machine they are using at the time.
To complete the additional feature set of EC CAD 2008 and
EC Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP is support for third party estimating
programs. EC CAD 2008 contains support for the most recent
third party package aligning their product line with EastCoast
CAD/CAM. The newly aligned company is called, Estimation
Inc. http://www.estimation.com .
With the exception of just a handful of proprietary estimating
programs, EastCoast CAD/CAM is now fully integrated with the
majority of the leading HVAC and Piping estimating programs.
