Tips for tracking motion issues with your table:

Problem – There is no motion on one axis of the plasma table

Possible Causes –

  1. The motor on that axis is no longer working
  2. The motor cable has become damaged
  3. The drive amp for that axis is no longer working
  4. The drive amp fuse has blown

Trouble shooting to determine the cause

Step 1 - Isolate the problem to the controller or to the motor and motor cable

  1. Swap the X and Y motor cables at the output on the machine controller

a.  if the problem persists but switches to the other axis then the problem is within the controller

b.  if the problem stays on the same axis then the problem is with the motor cable or the motor.

Step 2a – A fix for both scenarios

Controller Problem Solution (1.a) – First check the motor cable for physical damage, second ohm out the motor cable for continuity.  If the motor cable is good then you will need to replace the motor.  If the motor cable is damaged or does not have continuity then you will need to replace the motor cable.

Motor or Motor Cable Problem Solution (2.a) – Check the fuse board which is located next to the contactor and the opto board.  Replace any blown fuses and see if problem is fixed.  If the fuses are good and problem persists then switch the drive amps.  If the problem switches axis then you have to replace the bad drive amp.
