EastCoast CAD/CAM News
Letter from the editor, Dave Quigley
2008 looks like it is going to be our best year yet at EastCoast CAD/CAM. First off, we're bringing to ASHRAE news that announces one of the most significant software partnerships ever forged in the HVAC and Mechanical Contractor Industries. Once officially announced next week, I will forward it to you all in a special update to this newsletter.
As always.. please feel free to contact us with any questions or ideas how we can serve you better.
Best regards,
Dave

December's AutoCAD MEP Fabrication Training - A student's perspective
Leading up to your recent training in December, AutoCAD MEP had not met our needs in terms of shop drawing and fabrication drawing standards. Much of this, we now realize was a result of poor training we received from other third party venues. In regard to the December EastCoast AutoCAD MEP training, I thought that the approach and attitude of the trainers was just right. My colleagues and I especially found the support and enthusiasm for the new EastCoast - AutoCAD MEP strategic development path to be refreshing and valuable. With your curriculum tuned on fabrication issues, which is our primary focus as well, we found the training to be most helpful. We are now confident, after 4 years of frustration over our inability to use AutoCAD MEP, that the ECC training and add-on is the way to go.
Sincerely,
Jim Kundrod

Announcing EC DuctMaker
EastCoast CAD/CAM is announcing the release of the company’s next generation EC Maker. The new sheet metal fabrication tool is called, EC Ductmaker. It’s intuitive, smart and easy to use. It was written using Microsoft’s C# compiler and designed to take advantage of Microsoft’s .NET Framework supporting interoperability and internationalization. The new application is completely unencumbered by old code and is easily customizable to fit just about any shop protocol.
The strength of the product is highlighted in its powerful specification engine, comprehensive manufacturer content, fast fitting creation (providing a UI that includes the ability to rotate a fitting for a complete full view) and editing (allowing the user to view changes as the fitting is being edited.)
EC Series 2000 will begin shipping in February. If you would like more details on this new tool contact sales at EastCoast CAD/CAM.

January Tech Tip - Matt Dicken - Support
Showing Connectors for Coordination
Many projects today are being coordinated in 3D in software packages like Navis Works. Programs like Navis Works allow contractors to combine their individual CAD drawings into one complete model of the building. By coordinating in 3D, contractors can determine if their system will fit into the building and can ensure that there are no conflicts with any of the other trades.
To assist in the 3D coordination process, EC-CAD 2008 Version 1.0.5 now has the ability to show the connectors on each piece of duct and has a greatly improved grill representation to aid in the 3D coordination process.
For more details on this tech tip download the EC-CAD 2008 Version 1.0.5 release notes to learn about these and other features and fixes in the product
