EastCoast CAD/CAM News
A New Era for EastCoast CAD/CAM
In just a few months, EastCoast CAD/CAM will be releasing Version 2.0 of our Flagship software products; EC DuctMaker 2.0, Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP Piping and Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP Sheet Metal. Each of the products will be fully synchronized with AutoCAD MEP 2010 and contain much of what you've been asking for.
It's hard to describe how excited we are with this upcoming set of releases. Many of us have been intimately involved with the extensive testing procedures we now have in place prior to releasing our products to the public. This is fundamentally why we are so excited. It's because we know that as of version 2, these three products will do the job. As a company we have never applied so much effort and attention to the quality assurance testing of our upcoming products as we have since the beginning of the new year. What this means to you, our customer, is that the products you receive will deliver what you expect in an HVAC and Piping software program. Moreover, and as of version 2.0, you will be working with the premiere CAD Design to Fabrication platform that will quickly become the standard in the industry.
EastCoast CAD/CAM (teamed with Autodesk) and with the release and support of AutoCAD MEP 2010, the company is entering a new era in the summer of 2009 - an era built on the basic principles of software quality and the delivery of effective, interoperable and efficient HVAC and Mechanical CAD and CAM software tools.
EastCoast is also at the forefront of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. You'll be reading and hearing more and more about BIM in the coming months and years. Every HVAC and Mechanical software provider will be putting their own "spin" on this new methodology - but lots of what most will be saying is just that... "spin." As you hear and read about this new approach, the one basic tenet to keep in mind is that the basis of any BIM methodology MUST work with and incorporate objects that are more than "block-based." For BIM to work objects must be "intelligent", i.e., they contain representative properties that detail everything building services professionals would ever want to know about them. Basically, a CAD object in a real BIM environment, for example, knows that it is a 7/8" Nibco cast 90 degree copper elbow, solder cup to female thread joint type, mfg. part number:707-3, EAN code: 039923353122, etc.... It knows what it can connect to and what it can't connect to, and when it requires modification, it knows what it has to do to work in the drawing... This is the beginning point for any real BIM supported tool. For those interested in understanding more about BIM, EastCoast recently co-authored the cover article in the April 2009 issue of SNIPS.

As always, we remain open to your feedback, suggestions and comments both about our services and products.

EastCoast Technical Tip - Using the Autodesk Portable License Utility
If you've ever had a problem upgrading your Autodesk-based software program to 1) a new computer, 2) change over the license to a new hard drive or 3) populate one license over several different computers (provided the software is in use non-simultaneously) then follow this link to documented Autodesk Portable License Utility that exists on any Autodesk software (after 2005). The link contains documentation on how to accomplish the above three actions.
