EastCoast CAD/CAM's December 2010 News

Dear Customer or friend of EastCoast CAD/CAM,

I am so happy to share with you lots of exciting news about the great progress we are making at EastCoast CAD/CAM.

2010 has been, without a doubt, the most exciting year, ever, at EastCoast. As the year progressed through the releases of four EastCoast CAD/CAM product updates, (e.g., Versions 2.1, 3.0, 3.1 and today's Version 3.2) we have welcomed over 300 new users and customers. It's taken us five years and nine AutoCAD MEP Product releases to arrive at the doorstep of becoming an important provider of software tools to HVAC and Mechanical Contractors and Engineers. We accomplished this because of determination, a strong vision, a great software tool architecture, a loyal customer base and many new customers willing to take a chance with a next generation AutoCAD MEP Fabrication solution. We also couldn't have done this without an incredible capable group of employees - all of whom have persevered through the early product release years and an historic North American economic downslide in building projects.

So, here we are today; we couldn't be more happy or proud of where we find EastCoast today, just a few weeks after introducing an industry changing product, MEP Fabrication (see more details below), at Autodesk University.

As always, we remain dedicated to staying close to you and your needs. Your comments and opinions are very important to us, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions comments, requests, requirements or issues with our products or services.

Wishing you, your employees and all of your families a safe, healthy and happy upcoming holiday season.

Best regards,
Dave

MEP Fabrication Meets with Praise in HVAC Industry

EastCoast's newest sheet metal software tool, MEP Fabrication, was unveiled at the Autodesk University conference last month with high interest from HVAC industry attendees who see the value of eliminating the need for redrawing from engineering to fabrication and taking advantage of critical design detail from engineering to fabrication. The tool provides significant production efficiencies, and assists contractors and designers who struggle with specifications requiring "Building Information Modeling" throughout the entire building process.

MEP Fabrication makes it possible to automatically convert engineered system layouts to real manufacturer geometry and specifications within a fully engineered Revit MEP design and model. The workflow takes advantage of EastCoast's patented Design to Fabrication (TM) while eliminating any level of redrawing. In the process EastCoast's MEP Fabrication applies accurate and precise construction documentation from engineered upstream design detail, preparing fabrication-ready models and incorporated into AutoCAD MEP for final detail coordination and cost estimation.

MEP workflow

Practical Design to Fabrication Workflow

Once the building project has been completed, the as-built model is available to be brought back into Revit MEP for down-stream facilities management, completing a full BIM workflow.

Our existing customers may not yet be aware that EastCoast's sheet metal content is already an integral part of Autodesk's Revit MEP. You'll find our sheet metal fittings inside the HVAC Revit MEP Family content library. All of the embedded EastCoast fittings have a ".dtl" file extension.

One of the most important values MEP Fabrication brings to the contractor is not just that it can convert Revit MEP HVAC drawings to full fabrication readied drawings by way of three clicks (selecting, saving and importing.)

As a direct result of the Revit MEP to AutoCAD MEP software architecture internal to MEP Fabrication we also offer users a seamless worklfow between Engineering users who use off the shelf AutoCAD MEP and the detailers who take the drawing all of the way to Fabrication and Installation; a tool with the functionality to capture all of the relevant design details and pass it to HVAC Fabrication Detailer who, without any redrawing, review each of the systems for final modifications and coordination saving countless time and redundancy. For the first time, and for large scale commercial construction organization, MEP Fabrication provides enterprises and their shops, a process and workflow that directly ties engineering to fabrication seamlessly on one platform and one set of tools.
