MEP Fabrication – Sheet Metal, Plumbing and Piping
MEP Fabrication gives contractors and engineers the much sought after ability to take engineering design drawings that were created in Autodesk Revit MEP, and easily convert them to sheet metal, piping and plumbing detail drawings that can be used for coordination, fabrication, and installation. Generic system layouts are automatically converted to real manufacturer parts, geometry and specifications, according to your specific requirements. This patented process removes the need to completely redraw the engineer’s design, and saves contractors time and money on every project.

Integrated inside Revit MEP
Access MEP Fabrication directly from the Revit MEP Add Ins ribbon. The tool allows selection of either complete or partial duct or pipe systems. MEP Fabrication also identifies if a system is well connected or not, providing the opportunity for design correction. The model can then be taken into Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP for final detail coordination, to generate BOM scheduling and spools, apply estimating data, and in the case of duct systems, download to sheet metal plasma cutting machines.

Integrated inside AutoCAD MEP
MEP Fabrication commands are also integrated into the ribbon menu in AutoCAD MEP. The Revit import option brings in the system using the Pipe or Duct Fabrication Preferences which you specify, within an easy to use dialog box interface. In addition, for Piping systems, you can specify valves and flanges to apply to the system.
To apply specifications and defaults to generic AutoCAD MEP duct systems, MEP Fabrication provides a Parts Convert tool on the Duct context ribbon, automatically converting these systems so that they are ready for optimization and fabrication.

Automation that Saves Time
You have full control of the piping and duct system mapping, optimized to your manufacturer preferences, specifications and standards, and can share these preferences between Revit MEP and Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP users. Working with engineering models becomes a simple process that does not require any redrawing to convert all of the BIM sheet metal design to a spec-driven model that is ready for fabrication.
When the building project has been completed, the as-built model is available to be brought back into Revit MEP for down-stream facilities management, completing a full BIM workflow.
By automating this essential process, the ability to work with accurate Pipe and HVAC information in engineering models from Revit MEP, MEP Fabrication resolves the time-consuming chore of manually recreating duct and pipe detail drawings. All the original engineering data is maintained, maximizing the use of a single model.
