Description:
Focused on innovation, quality design and to competitively position the company in the next decade, Flagstone Brothers knew as soon as it was demoed that Autodesk Building Systems (AutoCAD MEP) was exactly what they needed. Right out of the box, Tom McGlaughlin, Director of CAD at Flagstone, noted that AutoCAD MEP was at least twice as fast as AutoCAD (even with all of the AutoCAD libraries and lisp routines they had developed over the years.) McGlaughlin noted that AutoCAD MEP made the process of managing coordination changes and creating customized views incredibly easy. He noted that the core value in AutoCAD MEP is in the built-in knowledge contained within each object of the model. He compared this object knowledge of AutoCAD MEP to the lack of object knowledge and the limitation of the design elements (i.e., lines and arcs) found in AutoCAD.

The CAD designers, like Tom, draw in plain view, but are unable to see the design in model view at the same time. Flagstone Brothers see exactly how the duct and the conduit are going to lay out, where the diffusers and light fixtures will be placed, and where there might be any interference. The end result for Flagstone, by using AutoCAD MEP is that the company produces more accurate, coordinated drawings faster and better than ever before.

By sharing their design model with subcontractors, Flagstone shaves huge amounts of time off the project bidding process and receives more timely and accurate bids. Flagstone promotes the money-saving benefit of utilizing the AutoCAD MEP resources and the effort that goes into the design of the project to their clients.

Flagstone Brothers found that their 3D rendered models and virtual walkthroughs of past projects make impressive presentations to prospective clients. By demonstrating that the company was able to decrease their drafting time, increase their accuracy, and share their designs with subcontractors to reduce the overall cost of the project, Flagstone Brothers have developed an impressive competitive edge over their competitors. The bottom line is that AutoCAD MEP has helped Flagstone Brothers win more business.
